Check Out Alameda California USA! One of the Bay Area's best-kept secrets, Alameda and the East Bay are a series smaller towns and cities that take pride in maintaining their quality of life and beautiful surroundings. For years these thriving communities have been dwarfed by sparkling San Francisco across the Bay. Today however, the East Bay enjoys a nearly recession-proof economic base in manufacturing, and continues to draw new power from large companies within the biotechnology and telecommunications fields. Alameda and its surrounding communities also have a flourishing cultural life. There are nationally renowned repertory theaters, colorful academic communities, outstanding museums, symphonic orchestras, great vintage movie houses, fine dining and major league sports teams (go A's, and Raiders and Warriors!).

Outdoor lovers revel in a glorious array of pastimes along a nearly 30-mile stretch of shoreline, and in the East Bay Recreational Park District, a 92,000-acre swath of park and wild lands that runs in a contiguous stretch from Richmond to San Leandro Alameda is a wonderful place to live, because of its small-town, mid-western feeling. While I could have lived in a magnificent Victorian, Mediterranean split-level, or executive town home, I chose waterfront living along the estuary that runs between island-city and Oakland.
Today, I enjoy walks on the beach and tennis at one of the local parks or tennis clubs. With San Francisco just a swift 20-minutes away by car, light-rail or ferry, I naturally enjoy the big-city lights from time-to-time, but I am always delighted to return at the end of the day to my sweet, adopted home town. Time to Move >Planning the Move
The custom of relying on friends to help make a move from one place to another has been replaced by reliance on professional movers.
Professional moving companies offer a wide range of service options, including professional packing. It could cost you less if you pack your things in your own containers. However, some movers will not insure fragile items, such as dishes or glassware, if they do not pack them.
Begin your preparations for the move by calling several companies for estimates. And start early! Some companies want three-to-six weeks advance notice. Ask each company how they compute the charges, how much time they expect the move to take, and what kind of insurance coverage they offer against loss or damage. If you have to store your things temporarily, ask what arrangements can be made.
Long-distance movers may send a representative to your home for an estimate, while local companies may quote an hourly rate over the phone. Be sure to ask the same questions of each company so that when you compare bids you will be using the same criteria.
